Excellence in manager selection is a key component of the value we are looking to deliver to our clients. We use our broad skillset, experience and industry relationships to re-deploy the agreed percentage of scheme assets into a conviction portfolio of select third-party managers, managing the transition extremely carefully. Our third-party managers adopt active as well as passive styles and invest across the liquidity spectrum from LDI assets and matching credit to core credit, liquid alternatives, equities and illiquid alternatives.
We make these investments with a long-term owner mindset, targeting stable, durable returns and low manager turnover. The leadership position of Van Lanschot Kempen in investing in businesses built and run for the long term supports this. With Van Lanschot Kempen’s help, Dutch pension schemes were among the first major sustainable investors more than two decades ago and we continue to deploy this cumulative expertise and experience for the benefit of all our pension scheme clients.
However, our manager allocations are not set in stone. We believe the concentrated cohort of managers we allocate to, and the close, direct relationships we have with each, together enable us to stay closer to our managers and act decisively to make adjustments where we believe this is in the best long-term interests of our clients.
