Sustainability approach

Taking the long-term view

As an independent, specialist wealth manager, we help clients manage their wealth in line with their beliefs and goals, thinking across generations. Guided by a long-term view, we focus on navigating through transitions with resilience. Our greatest impact stems from how we advise and guide clients in their investment decisions. Where so mandated and within our core investment strategies, we uphold active ownership, using our voice and influence to encourage progress and we back these beliefs with action, committing to be a net-zero investor by 2050, where we have the mandate¹ from our clients to do so. We consider climate and biodiversity as our main focus themes.

Our ESG investment approach

We organise the integration of ESG considerations in our ESG investment efforts across four pillars: Exclusion, ESG Integration, Active Ownership and impact investing. These pillars apply differently across the several investment classes and assets we manage, as outlined below. This approach also reflects our commitment to the UN-PRI and the way in which we apply the PRI-principles.

Exclusion

For our discretionary managed assets, we exclude investments in companies or countries involved in activities with high environmental, social or governance risks.

ESG Integration

We incorporate ESG factors into our investment decision-making process, particularly for our discretionary managed assets. This helps us select investments that are relatively better positioned for the long term.

Active ownership

We may engage directly or collaboratively with investee companies that our funds and discretionary mandates are invested in, taking into account fund and client mandates and the axes of risk, return and impact. For direct investments by investment funds we manage, we vote at shareholder meetings of investee companies.

Impact investing

Through our impact solutions, we enable our clients to invest in themes that matter to them. We deliver impact solutions via our own or external (third party) investment funds.

We aim to:

  1. Be a net-zero investor by 2050, aligning our discretionary AuM¹ with a Paris-aligned reduction pathway.
  2. Measure our progress, setting a target of a 7% annual weighted average carbon intensity (WACI) reduction within our investment strategies.²
  3. Engage for our directly controlled discretionary assets – directly and with other investors - with our investee companies on a wide array of strategic, financial and ESG topics.
  4. Make a meaningful contribution to biodiversity via our discretionary AuM.

¹: Please see our climate transition plan, p.9.
²:WACI measures a portfolio’s exposure to carbon-intensive issuers and serves as a proxy for a portfolio’s exposure to climate transition risks. Our current WACI target is focused on Scope 1 & 2 emissions.

There’s a saying in Dutch, Kom verder, it means many things and it’s our business philosophy. It captures the way we work with clients but also the way we steer our investee companies to deliver shareholder value through active engagement.

Capital at risk. The value of investments and the income from them can fall as well as rise, and investors may not get back the amount originally invested. Past performance provides no guarantee for the future.
