What are the challenges of investing in alternatives?

The universe of alternative investments is highly varied which can make selecting the right options rather complex. The range of expected returns is wider, costs are typically higher and capital tends to be locked in for a longer period of time compared to more liquid (listed) investments. As a result, these investments often require a long-term commitment.

For investors with more complex investment needs we have developed a new consultancy-led service. Many clients also use our AIS service to deliver highly bespoke Impact mandates where we can deliver detailed impact reporting within a robust governance framework.

Moving into the investment mainstream

Alternative assets continue to move into the investment mainstream. The following chart shows the volume increase of alternative assets over the past 22 years during which time their popularity has not waned, in spite of some challenging market events. With AUM in alternatives currently at record highs we believe these assets will continue on this growth trajectory or may even accelerate in the future.
