Are you a professional investor?

You want to invest professionally as a legal person or a company or as a natural person. Whether this is possible depends on several qualifications that you must meet. The AFM has established these qualifications.

Legal entity or company

Do you meet at least two out of the three requirements below? Then you qualify as a professional investor.

- A balance sheet total of at least € 20,000,000
- A net turnover of at least € 40,000,000
- Shareholders' equity of at least € 2,000,000

Exceptions

- You are an institutional investor exempt from supervision. Your main activity consists of investing in financial instruments, conducting securitisation services or other (opt-up) financial transactions.
- You are a licensed financial institution. That makes you a professional investor by default.

Natural person

As a non-professional investor, we want to determine whether you have sufficient expertise, knowledge and experience. Do you meet at least two out of the three requirements below? Then you qualify as a professional investor.

- On average, in the last four quarters, you have made about ten trades of significant size on the market in question.
- The value of your portfolio is greater than € 500,000
- You have worked in the financial sector for at least one year. You have the required knowledge of the intended investment services, activities or ancillary services to perform your work.
